Our presentation wants to clear out a few aspects regarding the education of the young nobles from Maramure§, as well as the beginnings of the education of the local priests, some of which were great personalities, which, beginning from the 17th century, began gathering folk poetry and describing, on the prayer books used in church, facts and events regarding the life of those communities. Although the number of literates of Romanian origin was small between the 16th and 18th century, when compared to those of Hungarian and German origin, it is still to discuss the cultural level some of these people reached. Archives often mention members of noble families which had a tradition to take certain functions in the shire, functions such as representing the shire in some external diplomacy as some kind of ambassadors for Maramure§. These had real knowledge of foreign languages and diplomacy (the Petrovai family, Szaplonczai family etc.). The education of these families was granted to the local schools in the shire, more specifically those from Sighet, both the protestant one, beginning with the 16th century, as well as the catholic one and the Piarist High-School of Sighet, which was founded in the first half of the 18th century. This education was continued in the European universities and colleges (Tmava, Vasile Szaplonczai), in the Jesuit College of Cluj etc. The shire continuously funded these schools along the centuries using money gathered from selling salt, and they were also funded with scholarships from various princes from Transilvania, from the Court of Vienna, as well as with private wills and foundations and the money local communities had to gather with this purpose. A rising phenomena during the 18th century was the training of the priests and village clerks in order to gather popular poetry and writing of the main local events on the pages of religious books, writings which are particularly important today in understanding their local communities. These annotations prove the rising of the number of priests and clerks which were literate. (...) During the 19th century, the number of Romanians gone to study abroad in Transylvanian and European universities began to rise. Some of these remained abroad to conduct their activities, thus gaining value. These people worked in all domains including social, economic, politic and academic domains (Gheorghe Bila§cu, famous Romanian doctor, loved in Budapesta and later returned back to Cluj after the 1st of December 1918 to build the foundations of what would be the Faculty of Dentistry). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
XVI, cat §i cea catolica, Liceul piarist din Sighet, fondat in prima jumatate a secolului al XVIII-lea §i era continuata in universitatile §i Colegiile europene (Tmava, Vasile Szaplonczai), Colegiul iezuit din Cluj etc. Aceste adnotari demonstreaza cre?terea numarului preotilor §i diecilor cunoscatori de carte. (...) Pe parcursul secolului al XlX-lea a inceput sa creasca numarul romanilor plecati la studiu in Transilvania §i in tari europene, unii dintre ace§tia ramanand sa-§i desfa^oare activitatea in tarile de adoptie, aducand un plus de valoare acestora, in toate domeniile vietii economice, sociale, politice, universitare etc. (Gheorghe Bila§cu, celebrul medic roman, stabilit la Budapesta §i reintors la [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
