The article explores treatment options for infectious retinitis. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis can occur in AIDS patients, neonates and those in whom immunosuppression was induced. According to ophthalmology professor J. Fernando Arevalo, CMV retinitis can be treated with intravenous ganciclovir or oral valganciclovir, intravitreal antiviral drug implants or surgery. Choosing the best surgical option depends on the mechanical factors of the retinal detachment as well as patient factors.
