Abstract: We experimentally demonstrate a high efficiency potassium laser using a 0.15nm bandwidth alexandrite laser as the pump source. The laser uses naturally occurring helium as the buffer gas. We achieve a 64% slope efficiency and a 57% optical to optical conversion. A pulsed laser model shows good agreement with the data. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
