The article features John Hudson, a horticulturalist in England who served in a bomb disposal unit which diffused unexploded bombs (UXBs) left from a German air raid in the country. It recalls that Hudson encountered a near-death experience when a large bomb exploded near him and his automobile in December 1940. Hudson was also able to developed a method involving liquid oxygen in diffusing the Y-fuses used by the German forces in their bombs. Hudson return to being a horticulturalist with expertise in fruit production after World War II.
