The article discusses the experiences of the authors in facilitating mathematics for parents' workshops (MFP) in the U.S. It explores the structure, history and development of MFP and its connection to the concept of nonformal education. It elaborates the characteristics that classify MFP as nonformal education including not for accreditation or promotion, relatively flexible structure and voluntary attendance. It highlights the reasons why such characteristics are important to the promotion of learning among MFP's participants.
