The article discusses the worldwide clinical disparities of cardiovascular disease (CVD) presented by professor Annika Rosengren during the 2010 European Society of Cardiology Congress. According to INTERHEART study, there are nine major risk factors of CHD including diabetes, smoking and physical inactivity. It states that a cross-sectional study in Sweden and a 35-year study in Finland from 1972 to 2007 reveal a decreased in mean serum cholesterol level, blood pressure and smoking rates. It says that health improvements observed in Finland including the 60% reduction in coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality among middle-aged Finnish males were attributed to lifestyle changes. Moreover, proactive approaches to CVD management and lifestyle changes can provide good outcomes.
