Background: In the recent year more and more cases of Rhodotorula infection have been described. This infection are associated with patients in immunosupression. The major factor determining fungal pathogenecity is their enzymatic activity. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to evaluate enzymatic activity of strains of fungi from Rhodotorula genus and determinate potential differences between particular species' enzymograms. Material and methods: In this study 85 strains of Rhodotorula sp. were used. The activity of hydrolytic enzymes was measured by API ZYM (bioMérieux) strip tests according to the manufacturer's instructions. Results: Three species of the genus Rhodotorula were found in the investigated material: R. glutinis (n=6), R. minuta (n=17), R. mucilaginosa (n=62). None of tested strain, regardless of the species, showed activity of Lip, T, ChT, αGal, βGal, βGlr, αFuc, but each had activity of ALeu, AcP, NPH. The study revealed statistically significant variation between the level of ALP, αGlu, βGlu activity. The prevalence of enzymatic activity from obtained results were compared with the data available in the literature. Conclusions: Rhodotorula species shows differences in the enzymes profiles of API ZYM assay, while R. mucilaginosa has the greatest diversity of enzymatic activity. Further investigations are needed to explain the presence of differences between obtained results and literature data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Materiał i metody: Do badań wykorzystano 85 szczepów Rhodotorula sp. Aktywność enzymów hydrolitycznych oznaczona została przy użyciu testu paskowego API ZYM (bioMérieux) zgodnie z instrukcją producenta. Wyniki: W badanym materiale stwierdzono trzy gatunki należące do rodzaju Rhodotorula: R. glutinis (n=6), R. minuta (n=17), R. mucilaginosa (n=62). żaden badany szczep niezależnie od gatunku nie wykazywał aktywności Lip, T, ChT, αGal, βGal, βGlr, αFuc, natomiast wszystkie posiadały aktywność ALeu, AcP, NPH. W aktywności pozostałych enzymów testu API ZYM stwierdzono różnice międzygatunkowe w częstości występowania. Wykazano statystycznie istotne różnice międzygatunkowe w poziomie aktywności AlP, αGlu, βGlu. Porównano uzyskane wyniki częstości występowania aktywności enzymatycznej z danymi dostępnymi w literaturze przedmiotu. Wnioski: Gatunki Rhodotorula ujawniają różnice w profilach enzymatycznych testu API ZYM, przy czym R. mucilaginosa wykazuje największe zróżnicowanie aktywności enzymatycznej. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
