The article presents a study that examined neuroprotective effect of retrograde adenoviral vector (AdV)-mediated brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene transfection in chronically compressed spinal cord in terms of prevention of apoptosis of neurosis and oligodendrocytes. It found that mechanical compression of spinal cord can cause neural tissue damage and neuronal cell death by necrosis and apoptosis. Retrograde delivery of LacZ marker gene was identified in cervical spinal neurons.
