The synthesis, characterisation, and spectral and antimicrobial properties of novel peripherally tetra-substituted metal-free phthalocyanines and metallophthalocyanines bearing four 2(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)ethanol or 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde substituents is reported. The aggregation behaviour of these compounds was investigated in different concentrations of DMSO. The compounds exhibited antimicrobial activity against test microorganisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
