The use of synthetic mesh prostheses to treat pelvic organ prolapse remains highly controversial. Sacrocolpopexy is widely considered as the reference standard for surgical correction of vaginal vault prolapse (Maher et al. I Cochrane Database Syst Rev i 2016;11:CD004014), whereas hysteropexy is an increasingly popular option for uterine prolapse (Meriweather et al. I Am J Obstet Gynecol i 2018;219:129-46.e2.). Most surgeons worldwide are likely to continue to rely on techniques with better risk profile than TVM, including vaginal native tissue repair and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy and hysteropexy.
