The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between motivational regulation and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk markers before and after an interval sprint training (SIT) program in overweight and obese individuals. We evaluated the motivational regulation types before SIT and CVD risk markers before and after eight weeks of an SIT program in twenty subjects (34 ± eight years; height, 1.68 ±6.8 cm). The SIT was performed on a cycle ergometer, three times/week-1, with 4-6 series of 30 seconds' maximum effort (interspersed by 4 min of rest interval). Before and after the intervention, total cholesterol (TC) and fractions (LDL, HDL), triglycerides (TAG), fat percentage (%FT), skinfolds' sum (SF), fat mass (FT), hip (HC) and waist (WC) circumference were analyzed. After the eight weeks of SIT training, participants had a significant increase in plasma HDL and QC, while there was a decrease in TAG concentrations (all p≤0.05). Before training, the average motivation was negatively correlated with TAG (r-0.43, p=0.04), %FT (r=- 0.45, p=0.03), FT (r=-0.53, p=0.01) and HC (r=- 0.51, p=0.02). Motivation was positive and significant correlated with deltas' TAG (r=0.55, p<0.00) and AC (r=0.61, p<0.00) and negatively correlated with deltas' HC (r=-0.82, p<0.00) and HDL (r=-0.66, p<0.00) pre- to post-training change. Our results suggest that there is a relationship between both anthropometric and plasma markers related to CVD risks with motivational regulation profile, and such relationship may influence the beneficial results induced by SIT in overweight and obese individuals.
