Increasing human population and industrialization result in increased water consumption which causes water scarcity. One type of industry that consumes a lot of water and produces wastewater is the textile industry. Membrane technology is one of the various methods that continue to be developed to find the best result for wastewater treatment. The material that is getting a lot of attention is polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) because it has good chemical resistance, thermal property, and mechanical stability. PVDF is a hydrophobic polymer, so it often causes fouling on the membrane surface. In this research, the modification of the PVDF membrane was carried out by mixing a hydrophilic natural inorganic particle with PVDF. The inorganic compound is zeolite, widely available in Indonesia. PVDF/zeolite hybrid membranes were made by using phase inversion techniques and characterized by porosity, mechanical property and membrane filtration performance to textile dyes. The type of dye used in this study is Reactive Yellow 145 which is used for cellulose fibers dyeing in the textile industry. The hybrid membranes were made with various concentrations of mordenite ranging from 0.25 to 1% w/w, while the PVDF and PEG concentrations were kept at 18% w/w and 4% w/w, respectively. The results showed that the addition of mordenite up to 0.75% resulted in a decrease in porosity and permeation, but an increase in selectivity for Reactive Yellow 145 dye, while the mechanical strength of the membrane was relatively constant.
