The article focuses on the pyrin family of genes. Auto inflammatory diseases have gained recognition as a distinct class of disorders that are characterized by recurrent episodes of systemic inflammation resulting in fevers, leukocytemediated tissue infiltration, and dysregulated cytokine production. The pyrin homology region is a common structural feature shared by all members of the pyrin gene family. This domain, named for a 95-amino acid protein module that is highly conserved across vertebrate species, is a member of the 6-helix bundle death domain-fold superfamily that includes DDs, DEDs, and CARDs.
