In the present work, CuS/PMMA nanocomposite freestanding films were prepared using a simple chemical method with different CuS concentrations. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and optical absorption spectroscopy were performed to characterize the prepared films. The nonlinear optical properties of CuS/PMMA nanocomposite freestanding films were investigated by z-scan technique at a laser wavelength of 532 nm. The results showed that the nanocomposite films exhibit self-defocusing nonlinearity with the same sign of the nonlinear refractive index and a reverse saturable absorption with optimum value. The observed nonlinear refraction and absorption are attributed to thermal in nature effect and reverse saturable absorption, respectively. The obtained results indicate that the nanocomposite films may open a new possibility of using this material in all-photonic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
