Starting from the working principle of MFC-based biosensors, mainly introduced the research progress of this technology in volatile fatty acid detection field. The effects of reactor configuration, electrode materials, septum materials, electroactive microorganisms and other factors on the performance of MFC-based biosensors were discussed based on the principle of the MFC-based biosensors. The development of MFC-based biosensor was summarized and prospected, laying the foundation for improving the performance of MFC-based biosensor in VFA monitoring, and promoting the innovative development of online monitoring technology in anaerobic digestion.
