A recent study conducted by researchers at Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, focused on the comprehensive characterization of triterpene saponins in Rhizoma Panacis Japonici (RPJ), an ancient herbal medicine used for its medicinal benefits. The study developed a two-dimensional liquid chromatography system to isolate and analyze the triterpene saponins in RPJ. Through this method, 307 saponins were characterized, with 76 saponins identified for the first time in Panax japonicus. The research not only enhances our understanding of the chemical characteristics of RPJ but also provides a simple and efficient method for analyzing the complex composition of herbal medicine.
