The article reports that Xcel Energy has put on hold the construction of a coal power plant in Colorado, which would have been the first in the nation to capture its carbon emissions and inject them underground. According to Xcel chief executive officer Dick Kelly, the company is convinced that the technology would work, but the $1-billion-plus plant would be too costly to build without a partner. Xcel, the largest electric and gas supplier in Colorado, has proposed the plant in 2006 as a symbol of its commitment to lead the utility sector in addressing carbon dioxide emissions.
