The article reports that simulation shows how algorithms could screen flight plans to curb traffic congestion. Air traffic flow control may possibly use computer algorithms to review flight plans automatically and suggest alternative routings to avoid congestion and cut delays. An ATC day simulated in a Lockheed Martin research project here shows that a 60-70% reduction in delay minutes is possible based on a study of 30,000 actual flight plans filed in the National Airspace System (NAS) from the 35 busiest U.S. airports.
