One of the first labor unions in the U.S. to make significant use of the television medium was the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100, based in New York. Under the leadership of its aggressive president, Michael J. Quill, the TWU was a familiar presence on New York television from 1950 to the time of Quill's death in 1966. The extensive TWU collection at the Tamiment Library/Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives reveals the scope of the union's highly successful media campaign during this period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
