The Central Military Hospital (CMH) in Utrecht, the Netherlands, is the only military hospital in the Netherlands, and functions as a role 4 Medical Treatment Facility for sick and wounded Dutch military personnel. Between March 2005 and December 2010, the Netherlands armed forces were actively involved in Operation Enduring Freedom and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Uruzgan, Afghanistan. During this time, 24 Dutch soldiers were killed, and a substantial number of military personnel was wounded. Almost all wounded were transferred to the CMH. Transfers were coordinated by a Senior Medical Officer in the combat zone and a medical coordinator in the CMH. This is illustrated with a case. The complex injuries and logistics are a challenge to the medical teams involved. In our view the current model of transfer is suitable for these conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
