A recent study conducted at MGM Medical College and Hospital in Navi Mumbai, India, focused on contact screening of children exposed to active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). The study found that household contacts of individuals diagnosed with sputum smear-positive TB face a higher exposure risk. Out of the 120 children screened, 10 showed symptoms, and 8 cases were confirmed to have TB. The study identified risk factors associated with the development of TB disease, such as female gender, underweight status, residing in crowded conditions, prolonged contact, and extended duration of exposure. The findings suggest the importance of contact investigations and the initiation of chemoprophylaxis among children. [Extracted from the article]
