The following article deals with the situation of young people in the Russian Federation. These juveniles stand in a time of upheaval and new requirements under public observation with the focus on fulfilling social expectations. While the Russian Federation itself stands in a dynamic process of development and under the influence of Perestroika, young people have to find their own way. In doing so, they are affected by experiences of the former generation who grew up in a communist system on the one hand and impressions of social change combined with global influences on the other. When a society is increasingly exposed to global influences, it emphasizes a boom in local orientation. This phenomenon is termed globalization. According to Huntington's theory of the "clash of civilization" which is often used but also criticized in the discourse on the consequences of globalization, this situation inevitably leads to a conflict between the old and the new. This idea of the "clash of civilization" promotes the impression of two entities which are self-contained and homogeneous and thus generates an excluding perspective. Huntington, however, mistakes cause and effect when he declares cultural contrast to be the trigger for conflict. His unilateral outlook promotes an exclusive view. This theory contrasts with the approaches of cultural studies which overcome rigid thought constructs through their critical examination of culture and power and open up a deconstructive, self-critical perspective. An analysis based on this reveals new perspectives on a country in a state of flux. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
