The article reports that the spread widened between West Texas Instrument and North Sea Brent when oil prices fell in mid-February 2009 to the lowest closing since December 2008 on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) but increased on Intercontinental Exchange futures in Europe. U.S. light crudes dropped to 33.98 U.S. dollars per barrel on February 12, 2009 while North Sea Brent crude rose to 44.65 U.S. dollars per barrel. Analyst John Waterlow commented on the outlook for oil demand.
