Coplanar waveguide (CPW) is partially integrated with $\mu $ -strip TLs at critical areas with locally strong electromagnetic field confinement. The new integration is shown to impact the propagation constant of the structure. The impacts of the added $\mu $ -strip TL are theoretically discussed on a loaded CPW using the incident-reflected wave concept. It is mathematically shown that a specific phase is added to the phase of conventional CPWs by the proposed modification. The added phase is then used for physical size reduction and performance enhancement of the structure. Considering the propagation manipulation of the CPWs, the modified structure is researched as a unit cell for spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP).
