Hridinski ježinac, Paracentrotus lividus (Lamarck, 1816) jedna je od najčešćih vrsti ježinaca u Jadranskom moru i bitan dio ekosustava sublitorala. Dijeli životni prostor s mnogim predatorskim vrstama. Cilj istraživanja bio je ispitati kretanje i obrasce ponašanja hridinskog ježinca pod utjecajem predatorstva. Istraživanje je provedeno na otoku Silbi početkom listopada. Jedinke su bile podijeljene u tri skupine: dvije pokusne i kontrolnu. Prvoj pokusnoj skupini dodavana je voda iz akvarija s predatorom, kvrgavom zvjezdačom, Marthasterias glacialis (Linnaeus, 1758), a drugoj voda iz akvarija s razbijenim hridinskim ježincem, na način kako ga razbiju predatorske ribe. Utvrđene su razlike u kretanju i ponašanju među pokusnim skupinama, ali i naspram kontrolne. Skupina kojoj je dodavana voda s kemijskim signalima razbijenog ježinca najviše se kretala, ali najbrže se krenula kretati druga pokusna skupina prilikom drugog dodavanja vode s kemijskim signalom zvjezdače. Kod ponašanja je utvrđeno nekoliko karakterističnih obrazaca: pomicanje bodlji i ambulakralnih nožica, kretanje po dnu, stijenkama akvarija i kamenju, skrivanje u kamenju i mirovanje. Obrasci su različito zastupljeni među skupinama, ali ukazuju na zaključak da dodavanje kemijskih signala razbijene jedinke iste vrste stvara ježincima jači stres nego kemijski signali zvjezdače. The purple sea urchin, Paracentrotus lividus (Lamarck, 1816), is one of the most common sea urchin species in the Adriatic Sea. It has an important role in sublittoral ecosystems. It shares its habitat with many different predators. The aim of this thesis was to test movement and behaviour under predation stimuli. The experiment was done on Silba Island in October. Individuals were divided into three groups: two experimental and a control. The first experimental group was exposed to chemical signals from a spiny starfish, Marthasterias glacialis (Linnaeus, 1758). The second group was treated with chemical signals from a shattered conspecific individual. It was shattered like after a predatory fish attack. Differences were observed between both experimental groups and compared to the control. The group treated with chemical signals from shattered individuals moved the most, but the starfish-treated group was the quickest to move after the second exposure. Some characteristic behaviour patterns were spine or ambulacral legs movement, moving along the bottom, along aquarium walls or rocks, hiding within rocks and staying motionless. Patterns are differently distributed among groups, but it’s indicated that chemical signals from shattered individuals cause more stress among sea urchins than chemical signals from spiny starfish.
