This paper proposes a broadband, low-noise, and fully-integrated multi-channel receiver for ground-penetrating radar (GPR) applications. The chip, which is realized in 180 nm CMOS, includes four amplifier channels; each one consists of a broadband low-noise amplifier (LNA) using a noise-canceling technique, a gm-cell-based variable-gain amplifier (VGA), and an output voltage buffer. This design provides both low noise and high linearity: measurement results show that each amplifier channel has a minimum noise figure (NF) of 5.75 dB, an input 1 dB compression (IP 1dB ) of −20 dBm at 1 GHz, and an input impedance matching bandwidth of 0.83 GHz (0.5 ~ 1.33 GHz). Excellent inter-channel matching is also observed.
