The purpose of this study was to examine the interaction and possible mechanism between long-term swimming program and exposed by Cigarette smoke in rats,on calcium concentration and the T-AOC and BUN’s level. Methods:Thirty-two healthy Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 8/group): Exercise-Smoke (SD-Es), passive smoking (SD-S), exercise (SD-E), the control group (SD-C).SD-E and SD-Es group performed moderate-intensity swimming training for 12 weeks, More specifically, the exercise groups were progressively swim trained for 25 min, 6 days/week increasing from 25 to 70 min/day by the end of 12 weeks. SD-S exposed 8 cigarettes per day. Results: After regular swimming training and ETS stimulation for 12 weeks, the body weight showed a rising trend, and the average weight and thymus index of each group haven’t significant difference (P > 0.05); But for spleen index terms, SD-Es and SD-S showed significant increase compared with group SD-C (P < 0.05), especially SD-S increased very significantly (P < 0.01); Serum T-AOC activity of SD-Es, SD-E were significantly lower than SD-C (P < 0.05); Serum Ca2+ concentration and BUN level of SD-S, SD-E and SD-Es were significantly lower (P < 0.05)compared with SD-C,but SD-Es and SD-S had a greater change. Results and conclusion Antioxidant adaptations associated with exercise training or an elevated fat diet individually reduced basal lipid per oxidation levels in the plantaris muscle. However, the combination of exercise plus a monounsaturated fat diet increased lipid peroxidation levels above that with either treatment alone. This suggests an exhaustion of the antioxidant capacity in the plantaris muscle when both exercise and increased dietary fat diet are combined.
