For its robotics systems, ROBOTIS had devised two types of communication packets: 1. “Remocon” packets were first devised for the RC-100 controller, but they could be used for general user-programmable messages between various CM and OpenCM controllers, along with the PC or Smart Phone. This Chap. 8 described applications of these “Remocon” packets using ZigBee communications hardware which could be extended to NIR and BlueTooth hardware. 2. “Dynamixel” packets were designed to communicate with and to control ROBOTIS actuators, sensors, hardware controllers and external devices such as Smart Phones, thus these “Dynamixel” packets had a more complex structure than the “Remocon” packets. These “Dynamixel” packets were further classified as: (a) DXL 1.0 for Firmware 1.0 systems (for example, AX-12, AX-S1 and CM-5/510/530/700). (b) DXL 2.0 for Firmware 2.0 systems (for example, XM-430, XL-320, Dynamixel-Pro, CM-50, OpenCM-9.04/7.00 and OLLOBOT).
