Summary Activities of NADP- and NAD-MDH 2 ) (EC 1.1.1.37) were assayed in leaf extracts obtained from seedlings of Pennisetum typhoides , a C 4 -plant, grown in presence of ABA and GA 3 . In comparison to control, the activities of both the enzymes were found to be significantly higher in extracts obtained from ABA treated seedlings. These results indicate that, depending on its physiological role, ABA can also act as a promotor of a particular plant process. When added simultaneously with ABA, GA 3 , although in itself ineffective, tended to counteract the effect of ABA on the activity of MDH.
