The LCC HVDC may be an effective way to transmit large wind power to load center. Because of variability of wind power, the variable power controlled LCC HVDC should be used. However, the reactive power will fluctuate frequently, and the filter and tap will also be switched frequently. A new control method including constant Udi0 control and rectifier AC voltage control is put forward to adjust the firing angle of invertor and keep the reactive power not changed so much, which can reduce the number of shunt filters/capacitors switching number and transformer tap stepping number. The reactive power control method is very important and practical for large wind power integration into power system.
