Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is a procedure for managing angle-closure glaucoma caused by relative or absolute pupillary block. LPI eliminates pupillary block by allowing the aqueous to pass directly from the posterior chamber into the anterior chamber, bypassing the pupillary opening. LPI allows the iris to flatten, widening the anterior chamber angle, and thus lowering intraocular pressure. It is not common to have complications after LPI; nevertheless, complications are possible following the LPI and careful monitoring is a routine part of the post-procedure care.
