Phonons in mixed LiH1−xDx crystals

Resonant Raman scattering spectra of mixed LiH 1− x D x (0⩽ x ⩽1) crystals cleaved in liquid helium are studied for the first time. All spectra possess a developed and identical structure which consists of very intense LO(Γ) lines and less intense TO(Γ) and LO(X) lines. With an increase of the deuterium concentration a continuous decrease of the energy of the LO(Γ) phonons is observed, which indicates the one-mode behaviour of these phonons in solid solution. The reasons for the broadening of the scattered lines in mixed crystals are briefly discussed.
