Fo Guang Shan (FGS) emphasises the importance of education and doesn't only target in educating monks and Buddhist followers. Since the establishment of FGS in Taiwan, it has been trying to establish a comprehensive education system from kindergarten to university. Master Hsing Yun once publicly stated that “Fo Guang followers are going to promote Buddhist education from kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools to universities; from individual families to the whole society; from Buddhist monks in temples to daily life of the mass population.” Promoting Buddhist education is not merely an ideal for Master Hsing Yun, he also makes it come true. Master Hsing Yun concerns for youth education, thus he has put tremendous effort in higher education. Talking about FGS's effort in higher education, FGS has established not only Fo Guang University (FGU) and Nanhua University (NHU), but has already established five higher education institutions all around the globe. Master Hsing Yun's ideas on Whole Person Education and his practice could be a good reference for the educators in higher education.
