Hydrated Th(IV) oxide has been synthesised under various conditions. Their physico-chemical properties—IR spectra, cation and anion exchange capacity, chemical and thermal stability, pH titration, iso-electric point and distribution co-efficient of different anions were studied. On the basis of distribution co-efficients some selective ion-exchange separations, e.g. PO 4 3− CrO 4 2− , PO 4 3− Mo 7 O 24 6− , CrO 4 2− AsO 4 3− have been achieved.
