1. 1. A recopilation of species of fishes used for the study of s-MDH isozymes was made. 2. 2. s-MDH of most fishes was shown to be codified by two gene loci. However, there are fishes with a more complex pattern, with s-MDH composed of subunits codified in three or four gene loci. 3. 3. s-MDH isozymes from ectothermic species proved useful in the study of biochemical adaptation to the environment.
