Fanconi's anemia may often be misdiagnosed as idiopathic aplastic anemia. Every child with unexplainable gradual bone marrow fail ure should be studied thoroughly for clinical or laboratory signs of occult clinical anomalies. Skin pigmentation, growth failure and minor chromosomal abnormalities are frequent concomitants.
