A report of 180 cases of thoracolumbar spinal fractures accompanied by neurological dysfunction is given. Of these, 135 patients were treated using Roy-Camille osteosynthetic plates and 45 were treated by hyperextension and immobilization. The results stress both the neurological and mechanical benefits obtained by the osteosynthetic method. The advantages and disadvantages of laminectomy are also discussed.
