1. 1. Lactate (LDH), malate (MDH), isocitrate (IDH) and glutamate (GDH) dehydrogenases were studied by electrophoresis to investigate the possibility of isozymic differences between respiratory phases of Rana pipiens. 2. 2. No new isozymes appeared between gill development and lung development for any of the enzymes. 3. 3. Two new GDH bands appeared at the beginning of gill respiration. MDH, IDH and LDH retained the same bands during the entire development. 4. 4. Increases in activities for all the enzymes were observed near hatching.
