To report the drug sensitivity of causative agents produced by ocular infection of external adnexa and anterior segments investigated by the nationwide survey conducted by Japanese Association for Ocular Infection between September, 2007 and August, 2008.Among all strains isolated, causative and presumed causative agents were selected according to the criteria described, and drug sensitivity tests were conducted by minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) with 10 kinds of antimicrobial agents including 5 fluoroquinolones.Among 281 causative isolates, cefmenoxime (CMX) showed the highest sensitivity, followed by fluoroquinolones. Staphylococci and Streptococci were more sensitive to fluoroquinolones when compared to the others. Haemophilus influenzae was very sensitive to all fluoroquinolones. Corynebacterium spp. and Propionibacterium acnes were most sensitive to CMX and erythromycin respectively.CMX and fluoroquinolones showed generally good sensitivity among causative pathogens of ocular infection.
