Multilocus allozyme analysis of Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago in Lithuania ; Perkūno oželių (Gallinago gallinago) izofermentinių sistemų tyrimas

Isoenzyme analysis of the Common Snipe Gallinago gallinago population breeding in Lithuania collected in seven localities - the areas of Jonava (n = 7), Ventė (n = 9), Raseiniai (n = 10), Trakai (n = 4), Kaišiadorys (n = 1), Prienai (n = 1) and that of Raudondvaris (n = 1) - was performed. Liver tissue homogenate was used for these investigations. Isoenzyme analysis was carried out applying the method of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAAG). The investigation of three subpopulations of the Common Snipe from breeding areas with respect to their enzyme systems and non-specific protein proved all the six (LDH, MDH, ME, GPD, EST and NPR) to be polymorphic. Excess of heterozygotes has been observed only in the Common Snipe subpopulation of the Raseiniai district (Fixation index - 1.0). The highest number of alleles and genotypes established in the Ventė subpopulation shows that Common Snipes of this locality are distinguished for the highest genetic variability. This genetic differentiation among subpopulations can be caused by ecological isolation.
