Zaprezentowana zostaje zapoczątkowana przez Pierre’a Clastresa, i kontynuowana w pracach m.in. Davida Greabera, Jamesa C. Scotta, Marshalla Sahlinsa, a także Gillesa Deleuze’a i Felixa Guattariego interdyscyplinarna dyskusja nad problemem narodzin państwa w łonie społeczeństwa pierwotnego. ; The article focuses on the origin of the state and the relationship between the state and what is external to the State. The first part presents the impact of the discovery of America on Thomas Hobbes’ early-modern concept of State. The analysis of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century iconography, travel literature, and the Hobbesian concept of the State of Nature shows that social contract theory is based on the relegation of remote contemporary “primitive societies” into the realm of the (pre)historical past to justify European political order. The second part presents the problem of the origin of the State by adopting the perspective of political anthropology. The author reconstructs the debate concerning the relationship between the State and “primitive societies” initiated by Pierre Clastres and continued in the works of such scholars as David Graeber, James C. Scott, Marshall Sahlins, Gilles Deleuze, and Felix Guattari.
