In the course of the last five years, at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Vilnius Pedagogical University and in particular at the English Language Didactics Department, there have been significant changes in the concept oj a mentor and mentoring as well as in the nature of partnership involving trainee teachers, school-based teachers/mentors and HE tutors. These developments were aimed at shaping and structuring the good European practice in mentoring, and our involvement with the British Council in Vilnius and two international SOCRATES projects (ApartMent, MenTTime) has been very useful and ejfective. A pilot training course for MFL mentoring of English as a modern foreign language, which concluded an important stage in our international experience, has already improved the quality and effectiveness of MFL mentoring at VPU base schools.
