Modifications to the portable methanation pilot plant are detailed. Experiments are planned with different feed gas composition and at different reactor temperatures to determine those conditions which must be avoided to prevent deposition of graphite and non-ideal carbon and to determine temperature controllability. It is known that too high a concentration of carbon oxides cause excessive hot spots because of the highly exothermic nature of methanation. This leads to carbon or graphite deposition and fouling of the catalyst which must be avoided. (LTN)
