In this project the evaluation and design of the HVAC installation of the Hotel Princesa (Barcelona) using a hybrid VRF (HVRF) technology is exposed. In short, the installation will consist on the following: For heating and cooling purposes, a refrigerant-water variable refrigerant flow system with heat recovery, unique on the current market and conceived by Mitsubishi Electric, will be used. On the other hand, the air distribution system will comprise the duct network with its outdoor air handling unit for ventilation purposes. The correct sizing of the installation is paramount in order to save on initial and operating costs while assuring to meet the requirements of guests comfort. For this reason, a proper thermal load calculation will be performed and, further on, all the needed equipment determined. To put in a nutshell, the designed installation would cost about € 235.008 (including procurement, installation and assembly), and would consist on three HVRF outdoor units with their corresponding heat recovery branches and fan coils, as well as the AHU, responsible for the ventilation. In the next chapters all the needed information about the hotel, the technology used, the designing process and, at last but not least, the proposed installation, are exposed.
