As a college sophomore, Jim Morefield discovered this urn-shaped clematis on a mountainside near Huntsville, Alabama. He took samples to Vanderbilt’s distinguished botanist Robert Kral, who listed the species as new in 1987. We visit with Tracy Cook at the Huntsville Botanical Garden to see plants in cultivation. At the Sewanee Herbarium we study a mounted specimen and learn about the endangered plant’s location on the “Domain” at the University of the South, where students use the Seek app to study plants on the Cumberland Plateau with Biology Professor Jon Evans.
