TEZ8846 ; Tez (Uzmanlık) -- Çukurova Üniversitesi, Adana, 2012. ; Kaynakça (s. 65-72) var. ; xi, 73 s. : res. ; 29 cm. ; Hardening of composite resin (CR) is affected by many factors such as light curing unit (LCU) type, light intensity, exposure time of CR, acid type and concentration, etching time, composition and type of CR, form of the bracket base, material of the bracket and type of the tooth. The aim of this study is to investigate possible effects of disposable barriers used on LCUs on shear bond strength (SBS) of the brackets. In addition, the use of disposable barriers were also investigated how it affects the hardness of the composite. One hundred twenty human premolar were used during the experiment. There were 6 groups, each of group consisting 20 teeth. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and halogen curing units were used in three different conditions; with plastic wrap, with cure elastic and with no barier control group. Light intensity of LCU's were measured and recorded before each application. Cylindrical composite blocks of 2 mm in height and 5 mm in diameter were prepared to evaluate composite hardness. Totally there were 6 groups. Each of consisting 20 teeth and therefore 120 standard cylindirical blocks were prepared. Both LCU were used in three different conditions: with plastic wrap, with cure elastic and with no barrier. The highest SBS valeus were observed in plastic wrap used group for both of the LCUs, the lowest SBS values were observed in cure elastic group for both of the LCU. There were no statistically significant differences between LED and halogen LCUs. Significant differences were found among plastic wrap, cure elastic and control groups. For the composite's Knoop Hardness values, there were no significant differences between LCUs. The lowest Knoop Hardness values were found in control groups in both LCUs.
