W referacie przedstawiono aktualną sytuację na międzynarodowym rynku handlu węglem koksowym oraz prognozy cen na lata następne. Ostatnie dwa lata nie były najlepsze dla producentów węgla koksowego. W wyniku recesji gospodarczej na świecie nastąpiło zmniejszenie tempa zużycia i produkcji wyrobów stalowych, co znalazło odbicie na rynkach surowców hutniczych. Duże zapasy węgla w Chinach, niskie zapotrzebowanie w Indiach i pozostałej części Azji oraz w krajach Europy przyczyniły się do powstania nadpodaży na rynku i presję na spadek cen. Chiny będące największym na świecie producentem i konsumentem węgli metalurgicznych od 2009 r. są również jednym z największych jego importerów. Handlowcy z uwagą obserwują więc dynamikę zmian podaży i popytu na rynku chińskim, bo to znajduje przełożenie na ceny na rynku spot. Wzrost znaczenia Chin w handlu węglem powoduje, że rynek jest coraz bardziej dwubiegunowy, a ceny na bazie CFR Chiny (obok cen FOB węgla australijskiego) stają się ważnymi wskaźnikami rynkowymi. W opinii wielu analityków w najbliższej perspektywie rynek pozostanie słaby, a nadpodaż, nawet jeżeli zostanie częściowo ograniczona przez cięcia produkcji, nie zniknie szybko. Nie ma istotnych podstaw do prognozowania znacznego wzrostu popytu - produkcja stali w Chinach zwolni, a w Indiach osłabienie krajowej waluty i spowolnienie gospodarcze będzie ograniczać wzrost zapotrzebowania na surowce. Zapotrzebowanie Chin na węgiel importowany nie wzrośnie wystarczająco w najbliższym czasie, by stanowić wsparcie dla trwałego wzrostu cen węgla koksowego.

This paper presents the current situation in the international coking coal trade and price forecasts for subsequent years. The last two years were not the best for coking coal producers. As a result of the global economic recession, there has been a slowdown in consumption and production of steel products which was reflected in raw materials markets for metallurgy. Large stocks of coal in China, and low demand in India and the rest of Asia and Europe contributed to oversupply in the market and downward pressure on prices. China, being the largest producer and consumer of metallurgical coal since 2009, is also one of the biggest importers. Traders are thus watching the dynamics of supply and demand in the Chinese market because this affects the prices on the spot market. The growing importance of China in the coal trade means that the market is becoming increasingly bipolar, with prices based on CFR China and coal FOB Australia, being important indicators of the market. In the opinion of many analysts, in the near term the market will remain weak, and oversupply even if it is partially limited by production cuts will not disappear quickly. There are no substantial grounds for predicting a significant increase in demand. Production of steel in China will slow, and in India a weakening of the domestic currency and an economic slowdown will limit the growth in demand for raw materials. Chinese demand for imported coal will not rise enough in the near future to support the sustainable growth of prices.
