La végétalisation des talus vise essentiellement à lutter contre l'érosion. Les opérations de végétalisation sont souvent précédées de pose de matériaux biodégradables pour fixer le sol. Un dispositif de mesure a été mis en place sur le talus amont d'une route de montagne (La Bérarde - Isère) pour étudier l'effet toile de jute sur les facteurs influant de la germination (température, humidité). La toile a un effet important sur ces deux facteurs, elle confère au sol un comportement se rapprochant de celui de la végétation.
