MDH isozymes are few in different categories of leprosy patients: only 1 to 3 isozymes were found in the semen of different categories of leprosy patients, as compared to 3 or 4 present in the semen of normal fertile persons. However, MDH isozymes in the semen of leprosy patients witnessed significant increase in activity per sample, particularly in borderline tubeculoid and borderline leprosy patients. In lepromatous leprosy patients, total activity per isozyme, and even per sample, was significantly higher than in fertile persons, but was significantly lower than in borderline and borderline tuberculoid patients. It is thus seen that in the semen of leprosy patients, there is a marked decline in the number of MDH isozymes, but with significant increase in their activity.
