Four fragments, apparently belonging to the lower version of a single deed of sale, have been published by J.T. Milik in two different publications as two separate documents. One of the fragments is in the Institut Catholique in Paris while the others are in the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem. The new collation and reconstruction of these fragments, together with an additional, previously unpublished fifth one which has peeled off from the verso of the document, suggest that all of them belong to one and the same deed, and add some information useful to understanding it. Some of the corrections correspond to the formulae appearing in other deeds from the Judaean Desert. The property being sold is a plot of land, containing fig trees, sold for seventy-eight denarii to more than one person, as indicated by the word zbny' (lines 12,23) as well as the plural suffix appearing throughout the document. The seller appears to be of Greek origin, as suggested by the Greek signature appearing in two lines on the back of the deed, as well as the samekh which survive at the end of his name in line 14. His wife may have been a Jewess. She did not sign herself, and another person signed for her, as indicated by the word mmrh in line 27. Apparently two witnesses and the scribe signed their names as well as their places of origin on the verso. While the seller and his wife appear in separate phrases as those responsible and as guarantors for cleaning the property and the legalization of the sale, they appear together in the phrase dealing with the exchanging of the deed, as indicated by the plural forms lnh and nhlp.
